Founded in 1953, Subaru is a Japanese company that is well know for their use of Boxer engines and all wheel drive.
Subaru is the Japanese name for the constellation known as the Pleiades - which is where their logo comes from (the 7 sisters star cluster).
They were founded by Kenji Kita and Chikuhei Nakajima and are based in Ota, Gunma, Japan.
Nissa and Toyota have large stakes in the company.
